The End of the World According to the Quran

This article is about the Quranic signs and indications for the end of the world.

Unseen Discovered Only Through Messengers

While the Quran states that God is the only one who knows information from the unseen, such as when exactly the world will end and Judgement Day will start, the Quran states that only through a chosen messenger would God reveal the “ghayb” (which is the Arabic word for hidden or unseen matters).

[72:26-27] The Knower of the unseen, He does not make obvious His unseen upon anyone except a messenger whom He has approved of…

Prophet Muhammad Not Destined to Know

The people have asked the prophet Muhammad a number of times in the Quran regarding when the end of the world will take place, but the prophet was commanded to say that he had no idea. That is because he was not the messenger chosen by God to unveil this information.

[7:187] They question you (Muhammad) of the Hour, “When is its arrival?” Say, “Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None sheds light on it except Him. It weighs heavily in the heavens and the earth. It will not come to you except suddenly.” They ask you as if you are knowledgeable of it. Say, “Its knowledge is only with God.” But instead, most of the people do not know.

In fact, Rashad Khalifa has stated before that God told him the entire Surah 72 was addressing him, which includes verse 72:27. Thus, it is God’s intention according to Surah 72 to shed light on parts of the unseen to the Messenger of the Covenant.

The End of the World Is Partially Hidden, Not Fully Hidden

But nonetheless, verse 7:187 leaves a small hint by saying that none sheds light on the Hour except God Himself. That leaves open the possibility that at the right time, God will shed light on more details about the Hour, including even the year it would take place.

The Quran further hints that the Hour is not fully concealed, when God told Moses that He “almost hides” the Hour.

That means the Hour is not fully hidden. It is almost hidden, or partially hidden, meaning the timing mostly hidden and not explicitly stated anywhere, but God left behind clues to help the people find out when it will occur.

[20:15] “Indeed, the Hour is coming, I almost hide it. This is so that every self is repaid for how it strives.”

If the Hour is partially hidden, then logically God had to leave behind clues to find out when the Hour will take place. If the Hour was fully hidden, then there are no clues anywhere, but if it’s partially hidden, that can only mean there are clues left behind by God about where to find its occurrence.

According to the Quran, all of the indications of the Hour have already come to us from God. That means all indications of the Hour is contained somewhere in the Quran. The timing of the Hour is one of its important indications, thus the timing can be found somewhere in the Quran as well.

[47:18] So do they wait but for the Hour to come to them suddenly? But certainly, its indications have come. So what good will their reminder be for them when it has come to them?

Signs Showing the End is Near

The Quran states that all the indications about the end of the world have already been revealed.

Thus, it leaves behind several prophecies and signs that, if they occur, it means the end of the world is coming very soon.

Unveiling of the Mathematical Composition

The first sign that the Hour will be very close is that verse 74:30-31 states that there are 19 angels guarding over Hell, and that their number (the number of the angels, which is the number 19) will one day have five functions.

[74:30] Over it (the Fire) are nineteen.

[74:31] We have made not but angels as custodians of the Fire, and We have not assigned their number (the number 19) except as: (1) a trial for those who have disbelieved, (2) so that those who were given the Book may attain certainty, (3) and that those who believed may increase in faith, (4) and that those given the Book—as well as the believers—may not doubt, (5) and that the ones who have sickness within their hearts—as well as the disbelievers—may say, “What did God intend with this example?” Like that, God sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills; none knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. It is but a reminder for humanity.

The five functions of the number 19 according to verse 74:31 are:

Be a trial for disbelievers,
Cause the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) to attain certainty,
Increase the faith of the believers,
Remove all doubts from the hearts of believers and People of the Book,
Cause people with sickness in their hearts to question the number 19.

All five functions of the number 19 were fulfilled with the discovery of the Quran’s enormous and non-exhaustive 19-based mathematical composition in 1974, proving Islam as the true religion beyond a shadow of doubt.

The Coming of the Messenger of the Covenant

The Quran states in verse 3:81 that all prophets, including Muhammad, took a covenant with God. In this covenant, God explained to all the prophets that they will be given a scripture to convey and teach. Then afterwards, a messenger will one day come to all of them, and it will be his role to confirm all the scriptures given by the prophets as the truth, beyond a doubt.

Verse 33:7 confirms that even the prophet Muhammad took this covenant, indicating that the Messenger of the Covenant (who will be a messenger, but not a prophet) is someone who will come after the prophet Muhammad.

[3:81] And when God took the covenant of the prophets: “Definitely, this is what I will give you of Book and wisdom. Then a messenger will come to you as one who will confirm what is with you (the Books, or scriptures). Definitely, you will indeed believe in him and support him.” He said, “Have you agreed and accepted that, My heavy responsibility?” They (all prophets) said, “We have agreed.” He said, “So bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.”

[33:7] And when We took from the prophets their covenant—including from you (Muhammad), Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, the son of Mary—and We took from them a stern covenant.

This covenant was fulfilled in January of 1972, when during the Hajj, Rashad Khalifa‘s soul was taken up by God to meet the prophets. God told the prophets at the time that this person (Rashad) was the one who was destined to confirm their scriptures, and to confirm all of them, in fulfillment of the covenant they took before the creation. God then asked them if they have accepted. All of prophets, one by one, came up to him, looked him in the eye, and nodded their heads, responding to God that they have pledged their support to him. There was no spoken language according to Rashad, and all communication was done mentally.

And of course, Rashad Khalifa fulfilled his part of the covenant (confirming all previous scriptures, and the Quran) in the years since January 1974 (the discovery of the Quran’s 19-based composition) until his assassination on January 1990.

Manifestation of Islam Over All Religions

The Quran prophesizes that one day, Islam will be made manifest as the truth, over all other religions.

[9:33 and 61:9] He is the one who sent His messenger with the guidance and the true religion, so that He may manifest it over every religion even if the ones who associate partners dislike it.

Many people, including Rashad Khalifa himself, have interpreted this to mean that most people on Earth will become Muslims.

After all, if the validity of Islam as the truth became manifest and obvious for everyone, then why wouldn’t the world accept it? What would hold them back?

It is an unfortunate human tendency that even in the face of clear evidence, people have a resistance to changing institutionalized or long-held beliefs. Any attempts to do so end up causing much confusion and fighting.

Rashad Khalifa was killed for no other reason than standing up for the truth and delivering God’s message.

The prophet Muhammad was fought and persecuted by his opponents for the exact same reason, his enemies were deeply afraid of the institutional change that he represented.

The American civil war happened because one side (the deeply-religious, traditional, conservative South) hypocritically placed their trust in their plantations and their slave labor, instead of placing their trust in God.

Thus, the manifestation of Islam over all religions was fulfilled in 1974 with the discovery of the 19-based mathematical composition, proving Islam was the truth beyond a doubt.

From that point forward, Islam became manifestly or obviously the truth, but people will continue to have their reservations unfortunately.

Creature From the Earth

Another sign that the end of the world is near is that the Quran made a prophecy that God will produce a creature from the earth that will convey to the people that they have not been certain about God’s signs.

[27:82] And when the word has occurred upon them, We will produce for them a creature from the earth, speaking to them that the people have not been certain of Our signs.

This creature is said to come “from the earth” rather than from other living things. That means it will be made of earthly materials and will be a non-living creature.

The creature’s role will be to declare that the people have disbelieved in God.

This creature is in fact the computer. The computer is made from earthly materials, responds to commands just as living creatures do, has an internal coding like how DNAs are the internal coding of living beings, and does calculations.

With the development of AI systems such as ChatGPT, the computer can even literally speak to you like an intelligent being with a malleable personality, in more ways than one.

So how did the computer confirm that the people have disbelieved in God?

The computer did so by helping the Messenger of the Covenant discover and propagate the Quran’s 19-based system to the world. Then, the people who witness this miracle in the future may experience a renewal or new birth of faith, realizing that before encountering this proof, they were uncertain about God’s signs.

For example, imagine someone who was Hindu or atheist visiting a website (such as this masjid’s website) and learning about the 19-based miracle through their computer. That person might then come to believe, while recognizing that they had previously had significant doubts, misconceptions, and uncertainties about God. Thus, the computer indirectly spoke to that person the realization that they have previously doubted God and His signs.

In this way, the prophecy of 27:82 is fulfilled: the computer—an earthly creature that can communicate with us—plays a central role in revealing and disseminating the Quran’s mathematical proof to all humanity, enabling people everywhere to realize that they had previously not been certain of God’s signs.

Other Signs

There are other signs before the end of the world which have not yet been fulfilled, such as:

The worldwide smoke (verse 44:10, which could possibly be caused by a repeat of the Chicxulub asteroid that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs).

Gog and Magog (verses 18:94 and 21:96)

The splitting of the moon (verse 54:1)

The Year of the End

During 1980, Rashad discovered in the Quran the year that the world will come to an end. And the answer is found in Surah 15, verses 85 through 87.

[15:85-87] And we have not created the heavens and the earth except with the truth. And indeed, the Hour is definitely coming, so overlook with the beautiful overlooking. Indeed, Your Lord is the Knowledgeable Creator. And certainly, We have definitely given you seven of the pairs, and the Great Quran.

Verse 15:85 states that the Hour is coming and everything will be destroyed. Then verse 15:86 states that God is the Knowledgeable Creator, thus implying that God is the one most knowledgeable of when He chooses to end the world that he created.

Then verse 15:87 declares that seven pairs of something were given to the people in the Quran.

If there are 14 quantities of any object, then mathematically there are seven pairs of that object, even if those objects are not grouped together into pairs.

Like for example, if there are 14 balls in your yard, there are mathematically seven pairs of balls in your yard even if you didn’t put them together into groups of two.

In the Quran, the only thing that there are 14 quantities of are the 14 Quranic initials, made up of 14 unique Arabic letters, that are in the initial verse of 29 Surahs.

Quranic initials are the mysterious groups of letters that are found in the beginning of some Surahs which don’t form any word. Those initials are:

Alif, Lam, Meem
Ya Seen
Qaf
Saad
Kaaf Ha Ya Ayn Saad
Ayn Seen Qaf
Ta Ha
Ta Seen
Ta Seen Meem
Alif Lam Ra
Alif Lam Meem Ra
Alif Lam Meen Saad
Haa Meem
Noon

Interestingly, there is a complex 19-based mathematical composition linking verse 15:87 to the 14 Quranic initials, and it can be found by clicking this link.

Each of the Quranic initials has something known as a “Gematrical Value”. In the past, Arabians did not use a number system separate from their alphabet. Their alphabet was used as numbers. Like for example, the letter Alif represented 1, the letter Ba represented the letter 2, and so on.

So the Quranic initial “Alif Lam Meem” has a total gematrical value (GV) of 1 + 30 + 40, or 71. The Quranic initial “Noon” has a GV of 50. The initial “Ya Seen” has a GV of 10 + 60, which equals 70.

If the GVs of all the Quranic initials are added together, this gives a total of 1709. Thus, the total value of the Quran’s seven pairs is 1709.

So verse 15:87 can, in a way, be interpreted as saying, “We have given you the number 1709, and the Great Quran.”

Because the seven pairs (which have a total value of 1709) was mentioned as a gift from God in 15:87, after the end of world was discussed two verses ago, Rashad figured out that 1709 tells us the number of lunar years in the Hijri calendar before the world will end.

There is no “year 0” in the Hijri calendar. So from the years 1 AH to 1710 AH on the Hijri calendar, 1709 full lunar years would have passed.

So from verse 15:87, Rashad found that the world will end in the year 1710 AH, which marks 1709 full lunar years since the start of the Hijri calendar.

It turns out that the year 1710 AH corresponds to the year 2280 CE on the Gregorian calendar, and both numbers are a multiple of 19.

1710 = 19 x 90
2280 = 19 x 120.

Surah 18, which mentions the end of the world, states that the sleepers of the cave remained there for “300 years, plus 9“. Thus, the Quran hints at the correct ratio between the lunar years and the solar years because there are 309 lunar years for every 300 solar years.

The year 1980 CE was when the discovery of the year of the end of the world took place by Rashad Khalifa, God’s messenger. When you add 1980 to 300 solar years, the result is 2280, the number of solar years in between Jesus’s birth (0 CE) and the end of the world (2280 CE).

The Hijri year that the discovery took place in was 1400 AH, and when you add 309 lunar years to 1400 AH, you get 1709, the number of lunar years between the start of the lunar calendar (1 AH) and the end of the world (1710 AH).

Jesus: A Source of Knowledge for the Hour

The Quran in Surah 43 tells us that Jesus serves as a source of knowledge for the Hour. That means something about him provides knowledge about the end of the world.

[43:61] And indeed, he (Jesus) is definitely a source of knowledge for the Hour. So do not doubt it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.

One way that Jesus serves as a source of knowledge is because his birth is the benchmark for the Gregorian calendar date of 2280 CE, which corresponds to 1710 AH on the Hijri calendar.

The other way is because the amount of difference between the birth year of Jesus (Year 0) and the birth year of Muhammad (Year 570) is 570, which is a multiple of 19 (570 = 19 x 30).

As it turns out, both 2280 and 1710 are multiples not only of 19, but of 570 as well. And the difference between both is 570.

2280 = 570 x 4
1710 = 570 x 3
2280 – 1710 = 570.

Conclusion

So the Quran states in verse 20:15 that the Hour is only partially hidden from the people, not fully hidden, which explicitly tells us that while God didn’t make it explicit, there are clues left behind about when it will occur.

That means while it is not explicitly stated, all the signs in Quran itself point towards the date of the Hour occurring in 2280 CE.

But of course, because the Hour is partially hidden, that means there is a chance that the year is not 2280 CE. In that case, any other guesses for when the Hour must meet be based on clues inside the Quran itself.

That is because while the exact year (2280) can be up for debate, what isn’t up for debate is that the Quran left clues within itself to figure it out.

Now that there is a very high chance that universe will be ending in 255 years. And we know that 4 out of 7 signs of the Hour (the messenger, the earthly creature, the miracle, and the manifestation) have already come to pass.

So the main question for us all is: what will you do now to prepare for this upcoming meeting with God?
